About

Basically this page is just a bunch of songs/playslists I found on Youtube that I enjoyed listening to. So I want to share it with others, in hopes that they will enjoy it too! You do however have to be subject to lots of yap. Oh the price you have to pay to access peak...

wake up! it's the 2000s again - frutiger aero playlist

So this playlist I first found when I was trying to find playlists to download. At the time, I was downloading songs onto my Zune (mainly youtube mp3 files tbh), but since it is a very tedious process, that takes a lot of time, I had the genius idea of finding one vid playlists instead, with agreeable songs.

In all honesty I did not know what frutiger aero was at the time, but this exact video prompted me to look it up, and my gosh did I start feeling the nostalgia! I mean I totally remember this aesthetic being everywhere when I was younger - from the wii, to windows 7, to basically all the tech advertisements at the time, it was all frutiger aero for a bit. This naturally led me to discover other aesthetics from the time period like frutiger metro, and now I wonder what has happened to the vibes in the world.

Perhaps it is literally just the nostalgia, but I genuinely do not remember the last time corporate tech inspired the world to be better and brighter, apart from perhaps OpenAI back in 2023 (definetly not now lol). I mean nowadays, you have that minimalistic, readability above all corpo slop everywhere, with the inability to customise it to another theme if you so choose. I guess the closest I can think of there is that gmail allows you to change your background...? (yeah in case you didn't know, the web browser version of gmail allows this. It even comes with some background images if you would like to use theirs. I use the jellyfish background because honestly, I could not find a jellyfish image with a high enough resolution to beat Google's image)

Not to keep ranting about... well not the song (I promise I will yap about that in a sec!), but while I am on the topic, it feels like everything we use on the Internet has become less customisable, even social media, which I feel should be the one thing WITH customisability. Like if you compare the creativity and freedom of myspace, so it's successor, faceboook and instagram, there is a clear difference. Something something night and day even...

Anyways, about the actual song/playlist. It is a very fun, yet calming vibe sort of music. Nothing too exciting or demanding. You don't need to read along to the song lyrics or even try and actually memorise the songs the way you do the instrumentals of pop songs. It's a collection of songs that I think, you are supposed to put in the background and forget about, that make you feel happy and satisfied. If you put on, say sad music in the background, then naturally you will feel sader, you will have a more negative mindset and your movements will likely be more sluggish and tiring. But this frutiger aero achieves the opposite of that, without delving into the opposing extremity. It keeps you happy, but not too happy, calm but still active, and focused on whatever you are doing, as opposed to focused on the lyrics. I guess in a sense, this may have been exactly what Nintendo was aiming to achieve when they made this music for the Wii, because at that time, games were moreso designed, not to keep your attention for as long as possible, or with competition in mind, but rather the idea was to play the game for 1-2 hours max, have fun, then go outside and do something else with your time, encouraging companies to prioritise user satisfaction above all else.

In terms of what I would rate this...
I would say a solid 7-8/10

Honestly? When I first saw this playlist in my reconmmeded I thought it was moreso some sort of nightcore or breakcore playlist, since that was what my Youtube algorithm primarily feeds me. Especially since the image is of an anime girl. But actually this playlist is full of old sappy love songs from foreign artists!

Admittedly I do not know the languages the artists are singing in, but the beauty of music is that it transcends trivial boundaries like language. Everyone can feel and speak the language that is music. Which is how I can tell that these songs are love songs that explore how lovely and serene the feeling of love can be! Even the silliness that comes naturally from being in sweet love haha.

My partner and I love each other very much, and so having a firsthand undertanding of how sweet and light life can feel when you're in a healthy, loving relationship, allows me to really connect and feel the music in a way I wasn't aware was possible.

I mean, when I listen to all these modern love songs, it feels less sincere, and less personal, despite love being an incredibly personal and sincere part of the human experience. It is as if love songs have traded this humanity for catchy, repetitive lyrics that tell you 'what' love is, rather than how it feels.

I would like to note, that although I described the songs and artists as foreign above, that the playlist does in fact contain two songs by Elvis Presley (covered by another band for copyright reasons), someone who is far from foreign. I have decided however that Elvis still falls under the foreign category, and is still a perfect fit for the tone of this playlist, as he wrote his songs in that 60s/70s era. Which, although does not sound like a long time ago, is actually almost 60 years ago! That is an incredibly long time, and modern culture and values are so different nowadays, that hearing songs written from this time is the equivilent of simply listening to a song from another country with a culture much foreign to ours.

Note, I would like to talk about this topic more, so expect this rant to change, but I must rate it. I think this playlist is a solid 9/10, but a high 9/10. The only reason I do not give it a 10 is because it is too short! Although there is something beautiful in it's legnth, it still makes me sad that it ends. So I am taking my sadness out by subtracting a single point. But even that took, honestly, hours of consideration.

Let us make the world a kinder place together!
